The 52nd annual Bon Soo Winter Carnival kicked off Friday night at Mill Market

The 52nd annual Bon Soo Winter Carnival held its official opening Friday night at the Mill Market with a tribute to Taylor Swift.

Visitors young and not-so-young enjoyed the bum slides prior to the celebratory fireworks display at 7 p.m.

Bon Soo continues until February 12 with events and activities scheduled throughout the city.

Festival highlights include a Night of Ice and Fire on Saturday, February 6 at the Art Gallery of Algoma; the OLG Polar Bear Swim in Bellevue Park on Sunday, February 7 beginning at 1 p.m.; the Snow Ball in support of ARCH Hospice on Saturday, February 13; and Passport to Unity at the Essar Centre on Sunday, February 14 from noon to 4 p.m.

Bon Soo festival buttons are $7 each and may be purchased at Walmart on Great Northern Road and both Scotiabank locations.
