NEWS RELEASE
180 PROJECTS
**************************
The community is invited to an opening reception for Anomie?, an exhibition of artwork by artist James Depew. The opening will take place on Thursday, Aug. 2, from 7 to 9 p.m., at 180 Projects at 180 Gore St. Anomie? will feature works of various media including photo and video.

James Depew is an educator, theorist, and social designer. Influenced by the ‘educational turn’ in art practice, he is interested in the way ideas and perceptions are bound to objects and images through various forms of interaction, and how these interactions both promote and undermine the democratization of access to knowledge. His work aims to create community with and through objects and images, by using generative techniques to trigger interactions that ask the viewer to re-examine their engagement with the ordinary world around them.

Depew will provide a brief artist talk at 8 p.m. and will be available for questions and discussion throughout the evening. Light refreshments will be available and this event is free to attend. Anomie? will be on display until Aug. 28, though viewings outside of the opening must be arranged by appointment by contacting 180 Projects at [email protected].

This event coincides with the Fringe North and Arts Council of Algoma’s annual downtown summer Art Crawl running Aug. 9 - 19, 2018.
