Algoma Conservatory presents The Four Seasons (times two)

The Algoma Conservatory of Music and Dawson & Keenan will be presenting The Eight Seasons, featuring Alexandre Da Costa, violinist, accompanied by the Sinfonia Toronto Chamber Orchestra conducted by Nurhan Arman at The Machine Shop Sunday, Dec. 9 at 7:30 p.m.

Tickets are available at the door for $35 (35 years and under, $15).

The performance includes The Four Seasons by Italian composer Antonio Vivaldi, which gives musical expression to each season of the year, and The Four Seasons of Buenos Aires by Argentine composer Astor Pantaleón Piazzolla.

Alexandre Da Costa, violinist, is a Sony Classical artist and 2012 Juno Award winner for Classical Album of the Year.

Born in Montreal, he was performing by the age of nine.

At 18, he obtained a Master's Degree in violin and a First Prize from the Conservatoire de Musique du Québec and a Bachelor's Degree in Piano Interpretation from the University of Montreal.

Continuing his musical studies in Madrid and Vienna, he is currently completing a research PhD.

A winner of many national and international first prizes, Da Costa has given close to two thousand concerts and recitals throughout North America, Europe, Australia and Asia at major concert halls.

He has played and recorded as guest soloist with more than 100 different orchestras, including London's Royal Philharmonic, Sinfonia Toronto, the Vienna, Berlin and Montreal Symphony Orchestras and many more.

His live performance broadcasts have aired on the UK’s BBC and Canada’s own CBC.

As a recording artist, he has recorded 25 CDs and now records for Spectra and Sony Classical.

In addition to his soloist activities, Da Costa is Associate Professor and Head of Strings at the Edith Cowan University in Australia and regularly teaches classes at various universities and conservatories around the world.
