More than 12 years after he said he’d “not bother” performing in Sault Ste. Marie again, Canadian recording artist Matthew Good is scheduled to return for a performance at the Sault Community Theatre Centre on March 26, 2020.

What transpired on Monday, Oct. 1, 2007 at Algoma University’s Speakeasy Pub varies depending on the source – while SooToday recalls a loud and disrespectful audience at his solo acoustic show, Algoma’s then student centre coordinator described a rude and unappreciative performer. And after a bit of back and forth following SooToday’s recount of the evening, Mr. Good responded with a lengthy account posted a few days later on his then official website which no longer exists.

"Playing [the show] was certainly no favour to me,” he wrote. “As I said, I could have simply driven straight through town and not bothered. Unfortunately, because of this, in the future that is precisely what I intend to do.”

SooToday has reached out to Good's agents hoping to get comment from the artist regarding his descision to return to our city.

Matthew Good and his band will roll through town during his upcoming Moving Walls Tour with special guest Ria Mae on Thursday, March 26. Sault Ste. Marie is the only northern Ontario stop scheduled on the tour thus far.

Tickets are $44 plus fees and taxes and go on sale Friday, Dec. 13. at 10:45 a.m. Tickets may be purchased online, by phone at 705-945-7299, or in person at the Community Theatre Box Office in the Station Mall.
