47th Algoma Fall Festival an eclectic mix of music, art and laughter

The Algoma Arts Festival Association is pleased to announce the 2019 Algoma Fall Festival! In our 47th season we’ll be celebrating with Canadian icons including Carole Pope, Chef Anna Olson and Women Fully Clothed and the fast rising Northern stars The Jerry Cans.

“What an amazing lineup for audiences to see and hear in October!” said Tiana Trutenko, president of the Algoma Arts Festival Association. “Great music, a free performance of dance, food, laughter and the incredible works of Norval Morrisseau. We are grateful for our community partnerships with The Art Gallery of Algoma and Algoma University.”

Wander Into the World of Norval Morrisseau will be presented in partnership with the Art Gallery of Algoma in the Main Gallery. At this exhibition opening Oct. 3, visitors will be immersed in large-scale projections of Morrisseau’s painting that depict the world of nature, spirits, shamans and beyond surrounding the viewer and demonstrating how he perceived the world around him. The Project Gallery at the AGA will feature an exhibition of his original paintings.

Choir! Choir! Choir! turns the audience into a choir on Oct. 4. Bears, Stars and Trees and Omen: Dancing the Seven Grandfather Teachings will be performed free to the community on Oct. 8. The Jerry Cans with their unique mix of Inuktitut alt-country, throat singing, and reggae will perform on Oct. 9. Chef Anna Olson and Women Fully Clothed will indulge your love of chocolate and laughter as they teach each other their craft on Oct. 11. And Canadian music icon Carole Pope performs her classics and her new music on Oct. 18.

Celebrate Celtic in Algoma is an all Canadian Ceileigh from coast to coast! Beginning Oct. 24 over three days, this season’s celebration features three performances of the Celtic sounds of Cape Breton with Andrea Beaton, Troy MacGillivray and Wendy MacIsaac, sounds of Quebec with De Temps Antan and sounds of the West with The Fretless.
