2018 Algoma Fall Festival line up announced

The Algoma Arts Festival Association is pleased to announce the 2018 Algoma Fall Festival! In our 46th season we’ll be celebrating the 100th Anniversary of the first trip box car trip to Algoma by several members of the Group of Seven with Algoma Discovered along with Canadian Icons including Sharon and Bram, Mary Walsh, author Mark Sakamoto with journalist Jeanne Beker, and Ashley MacIsaac.

“What a fantastic line-up for audiences to see and hear in October!” said Rosetta Sicoli, President of the Algoma Arts Festival Association. “Great music, great stories and a celebration of 100 years of the Group of Seven.”

Sharon and Bram take the stage on October 6 for a final farewell with a sing-along concert for the whole family. Soulpepper Theatre will perform The 27 Club, songs from great musicians who left tragically left us at the age of 27 on Oct. 12.

On Oct. 14, journalist Jeanne Beker will chat with author Mark Sakamoto about his family memoir Forgiveness, winner of CBC Canada Reads 2018. Comedic icon Mary Walsh will perform some of her best comedic bits and most popular characters on Nov. 1.

In the fall of 1918, Lawren Harris, J.E.H. MacDonald and Franz Johnston along with their patron and friend Dr. MacCallum came to Algoma to sketch and paint on their first box car trip along the Algoma Central Railway. Algoma Discovered will feature an exhibition at the Art Gallery of Algoma of their permanent collection of the Group of Seven along with many original pieces from private and public collections never before presented in Sault Ste. Marie with works by each of the Group of Seven artists.

Returning to the Festival for Celebrate Celtic in Algoma is the legendary Ashley MacIsaac on Oct. 26. Ashley has garnered international acclaim by playing the fiddle in that hard-nosed, traditional Cape-Breton style, while adding his own spin.
