VIDEO: 'They are hoping within a few years there will be a cure'

Sault Ste. Marie has the highest rate of people diagnosed with multiple myeloma per capita in the country. Brian Panek is one of those people.

Brian and Faith Panek took a devastating health diagnosis, and made it their mission to not only overcome multiple myeloma, but to raise awareness and funds to fight for a cure for the disease. They will be attending Brian's second Multiple Myeloma March since his diagnosis when this year's event takes place on September 11th at Mill Market, starting at 10am.

The event will feature refreshments, the M&M's tent, baked goods, prizes, silent auction, merchandise and a live band. Organizers will also be honouring some very special members of the multiple myeloma community by memorializing Jill Lang Ward and Mary Naccarato, who passed away earlier this year, and celebrating 10-year survivor Marion Bentley.

Students are welcome to volunteer at the event for their community hours. You can join a team, or donate to a team online by visiting: www.myelomacanada.ca
