Credit Counselling Service of Sault Ste. Marie & District

Since being founded in 1969, Credit Counselling Service of Sault Ste. Marie & District has served the community of Sault Ste. Marie, and its surrounding areas with practical assistance and guidance when it comes to debt and money management. No matter your age group, culture, or income level, our services are available to you.

Our organization is a nonprofit, registered charitable organization, and a member agency of the United Way. Governed by a volunteer board of directors who reflect the community we serve, we strive to alleviate the economic and social side effects of indebtedness through our service to our community. We know that excessive debt is capable of crippling a person's potential, can destroy family unity, and cause severe mental anguish. Economically, the consequences are often detrimental to creditors, and the community as a whole.

At Credit Counselling Service of Sault Ste. Marie & District, we employ a number of different techniques and services to assist in your debt and money management.

  • Debt Repayment Programs - This program is intended for those who can not realistically afford to pay their creditors the required monthly payments. We work with you to negotiate with your creditors, and attempt to get your payments reduced to meet your ability to pay.
  • Helping Resolve Creditor Problems - Oftentimes, we can help by contacting a creditor you are having trouble with, and attempt to negotiate a resolution on your behalf. You will continue to pay the creditor directly, and the intervention is only short term.
  • Money Management/Budget Counselling - We can help you in planning for the future, setting financial goals, assessing your current situation, developing a realistic budget, ensuring expenses don't exceed income, develop a savings plan, and much more! We personalize each process based on your needs and goals.
  • Other Solutions - We if cannot help using our aforementioned services, we can discuss the effects of a bankruptcy, of court action, collection agencies, credit rating, or any other areas that may be applicable. We can help explain what rights you and your creditors have, and the implications that are included.

Take the first step in regaining control of your credit with Credit Counselling Service of Sault Ste. Marie & District. We invite you to stop by our office to speak with a financial counsellor, and to determine the steps forward for a debt-free future.
