Year-to-date bridge traffic down more than 73 per cent over 2019

A news release issued today by the International Bridge Administration reports that bridge traffic for the year up to Nov. 30 has decreased by more than 73 per cent.

One-way crossings in November this year dropped by 87.9 per cent compared to November 2019.

Due to COVID-19, International Bridge traffic was restricted to essential travel only on March 20.

Traffic for the calendar year-to-date on Nov. 30, 2020, is 328,865. This represents a year-to-date decrease of 73.8 per cent. The bridge has processed 103 million bridge crossings since 1962.

The International Bridge Administration today announced that one-way traffic crossings of the International Bridge at Sault Ste. Marie totalled 11,809 for the month of November 2020. This figure represents a decrease of 87.9 per cent, a difference of 85,427 crossings as compared to November 2019.

The International Bridge self-funds with toll revenue all operational costs. Operational costs include the bridge structure, maintenance facilities, the Bridge Authority toll plaza, and building maintenance and support costs for the Canada Border Services Agency facility.
