As a precautionary measure in support of patient and health care worker safety, the North Shore Health Network (NSHN) will be temporarily closing the Thessalon site effective 11 p.m. today.

Emergency services will be redirected to NSHN’s Blind River or Richards Landing - Matthews sites.

In case of an emergency, call 911, do not present to the Thessalon site. The temporary closure at this time is expected to last three-five days as healthcare workers at the Thessalon site are currently being tested for COVID-19 symptoms.

NSHN will continue to evaluate this timeline in anticipation of reopening as soon as possible.

“After discussion and agreement with our physician and management team, as well as Algoma Public Health, we feel that this is the safest course of action given the information that we have available at this time,” said Ralph Barker, president and CEO of the North Shore Health Network.

NSHN will begin immediately moving forward on a number of logistics related to the temporary closure of the facility, including notification of system partners.

The temporary closure of the Thessalon site will be evaluated on an ongoing basis and the public will be notified when the site reopens.
