Public Library set to open Monday

Main branch opens with limited access, services; north branch scheduled to reopen in September

Attention book worms and reading enthusiasts – the Sault Ste. Marie Public Library will be reopening to the public starting Monday. 

As part of a staged reopening, the James L. McIntyre Centennial Library will be open Monday to Friday from 1 to 6 p.m., and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Due to physical distancing, only 35 people will be allowed in at a time, and seating is limited. No food or drink will be permitted inside the library at this time. Curbside service will still be offered to those who wish to use it. 

The book stacks will be open for browsing, however, people are asked to place any books they've handled on one of the carts provided so they can be quarantined. 

Services that will resume at a limited capacity include:          

  • Computer/internet services (limited stations available – shorter booking times)          
  • Inter library loans          
  • Reference and reader’s advisory          
  • Public washroom access  

Services that will not be available during this phase of reopening include:          

  • Room rentals          
  • Copying/scanning/faxing services          
  • Visiting library service          
  • Daily periodicals/newspapers          
  • Educational toys in the children’s area         
  • Study area space          
  • Self-service public access catalogues          
  • Water fountain         
  • 3D printing          
  • VHS-DVD conversion   

In-library programming will not resume, however virtual programming still be available. 

The Friends of the Library Bookstore will also remain closed, and the library is not accepting book donations at this time.

Face coverings are required in order to enter the library.

The North Branch is scheduled to reopen in September.
