Ontario reports 14 new COVID-19 deaths over past 24 hours, a dip from yesterday

Province reports 1,824 new COVID cases today, a slight increase over yesterday

Public Health Ontario has confirmed 1,824 new cases of COVID-19 today, which is 101 more than yesterday. There were 1,723 cases reported on Tuesday.

Of today's new cases, most are confined to the Greater Toronto Area. There are 592 new cases confirmed in Peel Region, 396 cases in Toronto and 187 in York Region. That represents 1,175 — or 64 per cent — of the new lab-confirmed cases reported over the past 24 hours.

Due to a data processing error, the number of new cases for Middlesex-London Health Unit in today's report (127 cases) represents cases reported over the previous three days.

The agency also reported 14 more deaths related to the coronavirus over the past 24 hours. Yesterday, 35 deaths were reported.

More than 1,541 cases have been resolved since yesterday. 

Over the past 24 hours, 52,900 tests were completed.

Since the start of the pandemic, public health labs in Ontario have processed more than 6.4 million COVID tests.

Throughout Ontario, there are 666 people currently hospitalized with the coronavirus.

Since Ontario began reporting COVID-19 cases, there have been 121,746 reported cases in Ontario, 103,239 recoveries and 3,712 deaths total.

  • Algoma Public Health: 61 total cases, rate of 52.4 per 100,000 people. There are three known active cases.
  • North Bay Parry Sound District Health Unit: 82 total cases, rate of 54.7 per 100,000 people. There are eight known active cases.
  • Porcupine Health Unit: 108 total cases, rate of 127 per 100,000 people. There are two known active cases. 
  • Public Health Sudbury and Districts: 232 total cases, rate of 113.1 per 100,000 people. There are eight known active cases.
  • Timiskaming Health Unit: 18 cases, rate of 55.1 per 100,000 people. There are no known active cases. 
  • Northwestern Health Unit: 122 total cases, rate of 123.2 per 100,000 people. The health unit has also reported two probable cases that are under investigation. There are 10 known active cases.
  • Thunder Bay District Health Unit: 331 total cases, rate of 168 per 100,000 people. There are 99 known active cases. Currently, there are three people hospitalized for COVID-19, one of whom is in the ICU.
