Public Health Ontario has confirmed 1,009 new cases of COVID-19 today.

However, according to Health Minister Christine Elliott, reporting glitches have caused overestimations in yesterday's numbers and underestimations in today's case count.

Public Health Ontario reported yesterday's update included cases reported up to 8:30 p.m. on Nov. 22, but the data included in the province's daily updates only usually include cases reported up to noon the day before. As a result, some of the cases from yesterday's report would normally have been included in today's update.

The province has reported 14 deaths in today's update, including one person between the ages of 40 and 59 years old, three people between the ages of 60 and 79 years old, and nine people over the age of 80.

Since yesterday, 27 people have been hospitalized with COVID-19 and four people have been admitted to intensive care units.

Among the 1,009 new cases reported today are 497 cases from Toronto, 175 from Peel, and 118 from York Region.

The province reported 270 new school-related cases, including 223 student cases and 47 staff cases. There have been 1,281 school-related cases reported in the last 14 days and 4,179 school cases reported to date. There are four schools in Ontario closed because of COVID cases and there are 703 schools in the province with one or more confirmed cases of COVID-19.

There are currently 12,917 active, lab-confirmed cases of COVID-19, which is down from the record 13,004 active cases reported yesterday. There are 534 people hospitalized with the coronavirus, which is up from 507 people yesterday. There are 159 COVID patients in intensive care units and 91 COVID patients on ventilators, according to today's provincial update.

Since yesterday's report, provincial public health labs have processed 27,053 COVID-19 tests, producing a 5.8 per cent positivity rate.

The province has confirmed 106,510 COVID-19 cases to date and reported 90,074 recoveries and 3,519 deaths. Cases are considered recovered in the provincial reporting once the individual has passed 14 days since the onset of symptoms and is not hospitalized.

In Northern Ontario, all but two of the health unit regions are currently classified as green under the province’s new regional restrictions. It means the areas are permitted the broadest allowance of Stage 3 activities.

Public Health Sudbury and District and Thunder Bay District Health Unit are in the yellow (protect) restriction level.
