Algoma Public Health (APH) confirmed a new case of COVID-19 in Algoma this morning.

According to APH, the individual in question was tested on Oct. 14 and is currently self-isolating.

Close contacts have been notified.

This marks the 40th positive test result in the Algoma region.

On Sunday, OPSEU Local 678 President Josh Miller confirmed to SooToday that an inmate at the Algoma Treatment and Remand Centre had tested positive for COVID-19.

The test result was received early Sunday morning as part of an ongoing program for recently admitted offenders, Miller told us.
