Eight new COVID cases reported by Algoma Public Health

The Algoma region currently has 43 active cases following the newly-confirmed cases

Algoma Public Health is reporting eight new COVID-19 cases in the Algoma region.

Of the new cases, seven are from central and east Algoma and one is from the Elliot Lake area

Following are details of the confirmed cases, as released by APH:

  • Case No. 129
    • close contact exposure category, tested on Jan. 13
  • Case No. 130
    • unknown exposure category, tested on Jan. 11
  • Case No. 131
    • close contact exposure category, tested on Jan. 11
  • Case No. 132
    • unknown exposure category, tested on Jan. 11
  • Case No. 133
    • close contact exposure category, tested on Jan. 11
  • Case No. 134
    • unknown exposure category, tested on Jan. 11
  • Case No. 135
    • close contact exposure category, tested on Jan. 11
  • Case No. 136
    • close contact exposure category, tested on Jan. 13

Close contact exposure means the person was infected through close contact with a known confirmed case while unknown exposure means the person did not travel internationally or have close contact with a known confirmed case.

All eight are currently self-isolating.

The new cases are the first in the region since Sunday.

There are currently 43 active cases in the region as well as one active case that is a non-Algoma resident who is temporarily in the region.

Algoma regions that have reported COVID-19 cases in the past two weeks include

  • Central and east Algoma
  • Sault Ste. Marie and area
  • Elliot Lake and area
