Ontario Premier Doug Ford announced Saturday the Ontario government has extended all emergency orders, which include laws restricting social gatherings of more than five people.

The emergency orders were originally scheduled to expire Tuesday, June 9, but in a news release issued Saturday, the province says it will extend them to Friday, June 19.

That means bars and restaurants will stay restricted to take-out service only, with child-care centres to stay closed for now.

Ford told the media he will be releasing a plan to reopen more businesses as part of the second stage of the province’s reopening plan “early next week,” but emphasized announcing that plan doesn’t mean it will take effect immediately, the province to rely on data concerning the spread of COVID-19.

As reported earlier, Public Health Ontario states there are 387 new cases of COVID-19, along with 68 cases that were not previously reported to public health.

Among the 35 deaths reported today are seven people between the ages of 60 and 79, and 28 people over the age of 80.

The Ministry of Long-Term Care has reported 1,717 residents of long term care homes have died.

The total reported cases today brings the province’s cumulative total to 30,202 confirmed cases.

In total, there are now 23,947 cases reported recovered, which is over 79 per cent of the total cases confirmed in the province.

Locally, the Algoma District School Board (ADSB) has announced a Virtual Track and Field Meet will take place June 15 to 19.
