Algoma Public Health (APH) has reported a new case of COVID-19 in our area, the individual self isolating.

Nationally, as small businesses begin to reopen, consumers may be surprised some of them will be adding a COVID-19 surcharge in an effort to recover income lost from having to limit the number of customers they serve, as well as to pay for the cost of personal protective equipment (PPE).

Ontario is in the first week of Stage 1 of its plan to reopen the province’s economy, allowing retail stores outside of shopping malls with street entrances to reopen with physical distancing measures enforced

Golf courses, marinas and private parks have also been allowed to reopen.

The Ontario government is also recommending (but not enforcing) the use of masks on public transit, urging transit agencies to provide sanitizers in their vehicles, plexiglass barriers between drivers and passengers, and also encourage social distancing measures.

As reported earlier Ontario is reporting 412 new cases of COVID-19 today, a 1.7 per cent increase in the total number of cases for the province.

Since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, Public Health Ontario has reported 25,040 lab-confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the province, including 19,146 people considered resolved, and 2,048 people who have died.

379 more people in Ontario are now considered recovered from COVID-19.

The Ministry of Long-Term Care reports there are 165 active outbreaks in long-term care homes in the province, including 2,148 active cases in residents, and 1,437 active cases in staff. The ministry has also reported 1,495 deaths of long-term care residents, and six staff deaths attributed to the coronavirus.

On Monday May 25, National Supply Centre's Sault Ste. Marie Location will be allowing a maximum of six customers in the store.

SooToday also reports City Transit and recreational facilities have been hit financially hard by the pandemic.
