The Rotary Sports Awards Dinner, which honours Sault Ste. Marie’s sportsperson of the year with the H.P. Broughton Trophy, was originally scheduled for June 9.
With restrictions in place due to COVID-19, the plan for this year is to go with a pre-recorded event.
In an email on Friday, Rotary Sports Awards committee member Dan Sharp confirmed the plan to record the ceremony on June 9.
The nominees for the honour of Sault Ste. Marie’s sportsperson of the year are football player Jordan Hoover of the Canadian Football League’s Edmonton Eskimos, Sault College hockey player Ryan Vendramin, and Team Brad Jacobs.
The award is voted on by local sports media members.
The ceremony also includes awards as well as the B’Nai B’rith Award, given annually to the graduating high school student who best combines athletic ability and academic achievement, and the Ross Winslade Award, which goes to the secondary school that accumulates the most athletic points in city competition for boys and girls sports.
Awards for athletes in six high school sports will also be handed out as part of the event.
