A member of Algoma University's campus community has tested positive with COVID-19.

Algoma U confirmed this evening that the individual is currently isolating.

According to the release issued Friday night, Algoma Public Health (APH) indicated that the risk of others in the campus community contracting the virus is "extremely low" in this situation. Close contacts have been notified by the health unit.

This marks the first COVID-19 case linked to Algoma University. On Sept. 24, Sault College confirmed that a member of their campus community tested positive with the virus. In that situation, APH also deemed the risk of others contracting the virus to be low.

This week, six new cases of COVID-19 have been reported in the Algoma district. There have been a total of 38 cases confirmed by the health unit, 34 of which are considered resolved.
