118 new COVID cases confirmed in Ontario today

Public Health Ontario reported 118 new COVID-19 cases today, which is six more new cases than yesterday. 

Nearly half of the new cases were reported by Toronto Public Health (50 cases). Peel Public Health reported 27 new cases and York Region reported 13 new cases.

The province has also reported nine more deaths attributed to COVID, including one person between 40 and 59 years old, and eight people over the age of 80. According to the province's public health agency, there have now been 2,700 COVID-related deaths in Ontario. 

Today's provincial update also indicates 202 more people have recovered from the coronavirus. 

Public Health Ontario has reported 36,178 confirmed COVID-19 cases to-date, and notes there are now 31,805 recovered cases (87.9 per cent of all cases). 

Testing numbers are up over yesterday's report with 22,832 tests processed in a 24-hour period. 

The average incidence rate in Ontario is 243.4 cases per 100,000 people in the population.

There are now 1,673 active cases of COVID-19 in Ontario.

Today's provincial report includes data from Jan. 15 to July 7 and includes the rate of confirmed cases per 100,000 population. Data included on resolved cases and last known confirmed is from each health unit's respective website. The breakdown for northern Ontario health units is:

  • Algoma Public Health - 24 cases, rate of 21 per 100,000 population. All of the cases are resolved.
  • North Bay Parry Sound District Health Unit - 35 cases, rate of 27 per 100,000 population. The health unit has reported 37 cases, and 32 resolved cases and there has been one death. There are three known active cases
  • Porcupine Health Unit - 67, rate of 80.3 per 100,000 population. Of the confirmed cases, 59 are resolved and eight people have died. There are no known active cases. The last positive test was June 21.
  • Public Health Sudbury and Districts - 67 cases, rate of 33.7 per 100,000 population. All of the cases are resolved, and two people have died.
  • Timiskaming Health Unit - 18 cases, rate of 55.1 per 100,000. The last positive tests were done April 28. All of the cases are resolved.
  • Thunder Bay District Health Unit - 93 cases, rate of 62 per 100,000 population. The health unit has reported 92 cases. There are 89 resolved cases and one person has died. There are two known active cases, including one in hospital.
  • Northwestern Health Unit - 41 cases, rate of 46.8  per 100,000 population. The health unit has 39 confirmed cases listed, of which 36 are recovered.

The Ontario rate of infection per 100,000 population is 243.4.
