OPP advise SooToday that the officer whose cruiser was struck at the scene of a collision on Highway 17 has been released from hospital.

The highway at the scene is still down to one lane after a tractor trailer hauling non-hazardous goods overturned, blocking three of four lanes of Highway 17 North.

Crews are working to clean up the material.

The driver, and lone occupant, of the transport was treated for minor injuries, say OPP.

RYAN TOWNSHIP – On Tuesday, October 14, 2014 at approximately 6:45 a.m., a member of the Ontario Provincial Police Sault Ste. Marie detachment was injured while conducting traffic control at the scene of a motor vehicle collision north of Alona Bay on Highway 17 in Ryan Township.

The officer was in his cruiser with all emergency lights activated facing northbound when a motorist travelling northbound rear-ended the cruiser.

The officer received non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to hospital by Sault Area ambulance.

The driver of the other involved motor vehicle was not injured.

The collision is still under investigation.
