Well, my first placement is completed – successfully! Mind you, I still have a pile of assignments and tests to mark by Monday. That is, however, the life of a teacher, and I knew that going in.

As I mentioned last week, I have bought a vehicle and am back behind the wheel after seven years of walking, riding the bus, and bumming rides. It feels great! However… Watching some of the other drivers leaves me shaking my head.

… to be back home, again! Or, so goes the line from an old John Denver song. I’ve been back about three weeks, now, and I have to say it really doesn’t quite feel like I am “back home.

Fellow editorialist Pete Vere has co-authored a book which examines the controversial work of British atheist writer Philip Pullman, his Dark Materials trilogy, and specifically Golden Compass, the first book of the series.

We all have them, and are usually quite willing to express them. We use opinions to choose our friends, or to judge others, or to aid us in making decisions.

I’ve been tossing around a couple of ideas for a column… in my spare time (ha!). One thing I have considered is a final wrap-up of my comparison between the Sault and Thunder Bay.

I haven't time for a lengthier piece, but I did want to make a couple of comments on the Throne Speech, or rather, on the other parties' reaction to it. I can't say that I'm surprised at the outcome of the Throne Speech.

I enjoyed a unique perspective on the election, residing and voting in Thunder Bay, but still concerned about things “back home” in the Sault.

My 11th-hour election predictions: David Orazietti will be re-elected with a comfortable margin over Jeff Arbus. Josh Pringle will garner enough votes to not be embarrassing, but not enough to have made the Tories a concern this election.
