A newspaper account at the time says the terrible Capy’s Kitchen fire of 1927 happened during one of the fiercest blizzards the Sault had seen in years.

Not only did fire sweep through Frank Capy’s kitchen on December 9, 1927, it also tore through the entire block, causing a total of $100,000 damage to several stores.

Among the losses: $1,500 in Christmas chocolate that Capy had brought in just the day before.
