Canada's Group of Seven did this over many painting excursions to the Algoma region of Northern Ontario.
Leaving the big city behind, the group utilized the Algoma Central Railway, departing out of Sault Ste. Marie for weeks on end, venturing into the rugged, beautiful Algoma landscapes which became the group's favourite location for painting.
With the Canadian shield as a backdrop, and Lake Superior in the foreground, Algoma Country is unmarred and idyllic, a truly thrilling, unspoiled piece of heaven.
Algoma Painting Adventure 2015
This painting trip is organized and led by Zan Barrage, creator of North Wind Painting Adventures for plein air artists like himself and who are always looking for new vistas and opportunities to capture unique creations.
The Algoma Painting Adventure is for artists who want unrivalled inspiration, space and time to work on their Plein Air art.
The adventure consists of 4 full days of Plein Air painting at different outdoor locations offering a multitude of varied spectacular scenery, and abundant space and time to draw, paint, contemplate and enjoy it all.
This adventure can be done in groups or individually, or a combination of both.
The spectacular Algoma locations are safe, accessible and provide the feeling of being on the edge of real wilderness.
After unloading, the first step each morning will be to set up a base camp to leave extra supplies and materials.
From there, the day is open to artists to explore.
The base will be located by the iconic sites the Group of Seven painted many years ago, allowing artists to venture further into the wilderness to find their own inspiration from the landscapes to capture their own moment in Algoma.
