From a diverse group of over 40 artists, the Algoma Art Society will be having a group exhibition at L & D’s Art Gallery and Framing from October 5 to November 1, 2019.
What began in 1948, the Algoma Art Society stayed constant in their aims to develop local talent; to promote exhibitions; competitions, classes and sketching trips and to create a greater interest in art in the Sault. This exhibition carries on in that tradition.
With visits to the club from Group of Seven artists like F.H. Varley, A.J. Casson and A. Y. Jackson, The Algoma Art Society has its taste for class.
Notable members you may see at the exhibition are names like Judy Henderson, Nora Ann Harrison, Mike Zavits, Ken Hagerman, Phyllis Dorman, Wendy Easterbrook and Hilkka Pellikka.
The Algoma Art Society is the oldest not-for-profit Visual Art Group in the City of Sault Ste. Marie, since it’s inception 71 years ago. Our membership consists of visual artists working in Watercolours, Acrylics, Oils, Pastels, Yupo, Encaustics, Collage and Photography.
This year’s exhibition will be a fundraiser for the club in order to branch out and become more active locally.
