The Role
We are seeking an individual with several years of experience in electrical installation design. The right person will have at least a 3 year Electrical Engineering Technology Diploma and a minimum of 5 years relevant work experience. The successful incumbent will value the opportunity to work across several Departments of the Company in a fast-paced and complex environment that is continually evolving. They will work closely with others to successfully complete electrical and automation projects. Provide technical support including troubleshooting issues to all area of operations. The successful candidate will report to the Superintendent – Electrical and Automation.

Key Deliverables

  • Design electrical installations of automated control systems, instrumentation systems, drives and electrical distribution systems.
  • Design grounding systems, cable routings (cable trays, conduit, cable schedules, etc.) and underground electrical services.
  • Ensure electrical engineering design compliance with the Ontario Electrical Safety Code and other regulatory requirements.
  • Evaluate, specify and procure electrical materials and controls.
  • Provide cost and time estimates for electrical designs and installations.
  • Develop, lead and provide technical support for various electrical and automation projects. Ensure assigned projects are executed within scope, budget and schedule.
  • Work closely with external engineering consulting firms and review their installation designs, engineering drawings and provide acceptance\approvals.
  • Work closely with electrical construction, electrical maintenance and external contractors during equipment installation and commissioning.
  • Provide technical support to operations as required, including assisting in field troubleshooting activities.
  • Update electrical drawings, cable schedules and other documentation as per field revisions.
  • Assist in maintaining and developing electrical installation and drawing standards for engineering.
  • Provide input into the planning and conceptual design of projects.
  • Maintain proficiency in area of specific expertise, provide technical advice as required.
  • Visit to mill locations frequently and conduct inspection of equipment or facilities.

Core Competencies and Skills Required

  • Must have a minimum 3 year Electrical Engineering Diploma or a Degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • Must have a minimum of 5 years’ work experience in a relevant engineering/technical role. Preferably in a heavy industrial environment.
  • Good knowledge of the Ontario Electrical Safety Code.
  • Good knowledge of AutoCad Electrical and creating electrical installation drawings.
  • Working knowledge of modern PC based engineering software tools.
  • Advanced personal computer skills (MS Office, Outlook etc.)
  • Must have excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Must be self-motivated and be able to work in a team atmosphere with minimum supervision.
  • Must have a proven ability to solve problems.
  • Requires good organizational and leadership skills.
  • Required to work at heights and wear the appropriate PPE (respirator, fall arrest harness, etc.)
