Access Worker


Children's Aid Society of Algoma

The Children’s Aid Society of Algoma requires an Access Worker for its Sault Ste. Marie office.  

The Access role is an integral part of the service delivery response to families experiencing a breakdown in their level of functioning and ability to meet the needs of the children in their care, or in the care of the Society.  The position is one on a continuum of services that the Society offers as a means of early intervention to high risk or at-risk families involved in the child welfare system.  The program is intended to avert the admission of children into the care of the Society, or to facilitate a planful return to the family unit, by offering intensive, time-limited intervention.  

Qualifications:

  • Minimum education:  post-secondary diploma in the social services field
  • Preferred education:  University degree in the Human Sciences 
  • Experience working with children and families, understanding family dynamics, the unique challenges of a home-based model of service and the multitude of social and political barriers that place children and families at risk of involvement in the child welfare system
  • Experience working with multiple levels of social and family systems theories
  • Knowledge of group development and facilitation skills
  • Knowledge of relevant community partners, resources and referral processes
  • Ability to work independently and be a self-motivator as well as part of a team
  • Ability to write clear, concise, goal-focused reports in a timely manner
  • Strong verbal and interpersonal skills
  • Possess a valid driver’s license, clear driving transcript and police record 
  • Possess a current CPR/First Aid certification
  • Bilingualism

Salary Range:  $47,857 - $58,825 per year.
