Human Resources Assistant
Full-time Position

Noojmowin Teg Health Centre seeks a Human Resources Assistant (HRA) to provide administrative support to the Human and Physical Resources function. The Human Resources Assistant helps with the development and implementation of policy and procedures, recruitment, orientation and training, occupation health and safety, time and attendance management, disability management, physical resources, and other areas as directed. The HR Assistant prepares documents, enters data, ensures follow-up, coordinates functions, tracks departmental tasks, as well as supports and implements special projects. The HRA reports to the Director of Operations.

Noojmowin Teg Health Centre is an Aboriginal Health Access Centre that provides traditional healing, primary health, mental health, and health promotion services to community members of the seven First Nations of Manitoulin District and surrounding areas. Given the traditional practices of the Anishinabek, exposure to wood smoke and the burning of sacred medicines, including tobacco, sweet grass, sage and cedar, may occur in the work setting.

Education & Experience

  • A post-secondary education in Office Administration, Business or Human Resources
  • 2+ years administrative support experience, preferably in human and physical resources, an asset
  • Health & Safety training including Joint Health & Safety Committee education/experience
  • Demonstrated commitment to ongoing professional development within the HR profession

Knowledge and Skills

  • Knowledge of relevant employment legislation and regulations in Ontario, best practices within the HR field, including recruitment, orientation, compensation, training, investigation processes and employee relations
  • Time management and organizational skills, including the ability to plan and prioritize workload, coordinate assignments, and respond to the demands of a dynamic environment
  • Strong computer skills and use of relevant software programs
  • High keyboarding and computer skills including proficiency in Microsoft Office programs;
  • A strong sense of ethics, integrity, confidentiality and privacy
  • Current CPR Level C and First Aid.
  • Current Criminal Record Check.
  • Demonstrated understanding and sensitivity to the Anishinabek culture, a priority.
  • Ability to speak Anishinabemowin, an asset
