PRINCIPAL INVESTIGATOR: Dr. Rose E. Cameron, Department of Social Work, Algoma University

RATE OF PAY: $15.00 per hour
HOURS: 35 hours per week
CONTRACT DATES: October 30, 2017 to June 29, 2018
(35 weeks in total with possible extension)
The purpose of the research assistant job is to assist in the planning and implementation of “The Perspectives of Aboriginal Youth and Early Adults on Lateral Violence” Project which will start on October 30, 2017. The responsibilities and duties of this position will be to:

• To complete a literature review on the concept of ‘lateral violence’ in the Aboriginal context
• To plan agendas, attend and to record all meetings
• Prepare for the sharing circles/Individual interviews
• Facilitate the sharing circles/Individual interviews
• Complete Ethical Review Form for approval with the necessary appendices
• To transcribe interviews
• To conduct follow-up visits with participants
(to verify data with participants twice);
• To analyze the data into themes
• To interpret data
• To present preliminary data findings with participants and the advisory committee members
• To prepare and develop a report of the findings
• Prepare dissemination material
• Report and to work directly with the Principal Researcher
• Other duties pertinent to project
• Must possess a BA or a Masters Degree
• Knowledge of conducting qualitative research
• Must be familiar with the components of the Ethical Review Form, and the Research Ethics Form for Projects that Involve Aboriginal Peoples
• Knowledge of Aboriginal communities
• Knowledge of Aboriginal protocols (Anishinaabe custom/traditions),
• Computer skills in MS Office
• Excellent writing skills
• Ability to work independently
• Must be available to work some evenings, work schedule flexibility is required
• Valid driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle would be an asset
• Must have a TCPS2 Core Certificate

• Schedule is based on flexibility
• Moderate physical effort required for research activities
• Use of Algoma University Library and Indian Friendship Centre spaces.
