Marketing and Events Coordinator

The Sault Ste. Marie Innovation Centre (SSMIC) is seeking a Marketing and Events Coordinator to support SSMIC and our primary divisions and sector development activities, including Rural Agri-Innovation Network (RAIN), YouLaunch, Community Geomatics Centre, C2C Business Services, Energy Innovation Hub and more. This is a one-year position, funded by the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporation (NOHFC) which provides recent graduates who are interested in launching and building their careers in Northern Ontario access to internships.


The key responsibilities of the Marketing and Events Coordinator position include assisting with the following duties and responsibilities with support from the Marketing and Communications Manager:

  • Ideation and design of advertising and promotional content for online, print and promotional material
  • Marketing and communications of SSMIC and its divisions online, print, and in person
  • Promote SSMIC clients, develop case studies and client profiles
  • Update and SSMIC social media accounts, including content calendars and account management for Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, Twitter and YouTube
  • Plan, execute and promote SSMIC events and workshops (including SSMARt Awards, Festival of Trees, ARTIE, Science Festival, ICT workshops etc.)
  • Coordinate advertising (design and placement) for SSMIC and its division's activities
  • Prepare external communications material such as press releases, quarterly newsletters and other SSMIC articles as required
  • Create promotional videos, arrange photography and enhancing our digital communications
  • Act as an ambassador for SSMIC in the community and elevate awareness of SSMIC and its divisions within the Sault Ste. Marie community and Algoma region
  • Provide support to the Marketing and Communications Manager and other teams with additional projects as needed

Skills and Qualifications:

  • The successful candidate will hold a degree or diploma in marketing, communications or related field and must meet the requirements of the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund internship program:
    • The position must provide the intern with first time employment in their field of study
    • Candidates are only eligible to participate in the internship program one time
    • Candidates must be legally entitled to work in Canada
  • Experience with Adobe Creative Suite such as InDesign, Photoshop and Illustrator is an asset
  • French speaking is an asset
  • Experience with videography and video editing software is an asset
  • Computer literacy utilizing MS Office software applications including word processing, spreadsheet and presentation software
  • Ability to work effectively independently and collaboratively
  • Ability to adapt, prioritize and multi-task
  • Ability to travel to offsite locations in a timely and efficient manner, as required
