Position Summary:

The RPN Scope Washer role in the Surgery Department includes re-processing of endoscopes (cleaning, sterilizing  and storage of) as well as assisting the Physician with treatment of patients, follow-up care and other related tasks. 

Required Qualifications:

  • Registered Practical Nurse with a valid Certificate of Registration with The College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO) in good standing 
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a clinical setting, preferably a Medical-Surgical Unit, Minor Procedures Clinic or Endoscopy Unit 
  • Approved RPN courses in Medication Administration, Physical assessment, and IV Therapy 
  • Current CPR certification and AER competency 
  • Sterile Processing Certificate from a recognized community college (preferred) 

The Ideal Candidate will Possess:

  • Demonstrated ability to reprocess equipment and instruments used in the Endoscopy/Surgery setting
  • Strong knowledge of the Application of Universal Precautions in the workplace to protect both patient and practitioner from harm and risk 
  • Demonstrated knowledge of infection control standards and practices in endoscopy setting. 
  • Demonstrated knowledge of chemical hazards associated with the processing of endoscopes. 
  • Experience with endoscope reprocessing and automated endoscope reprocessors. 
  • Physical assessment experience and training. 
  • Ability to provide an excellent patient experience evidenced by good verbal and written communication skills 
  • Knowledge and strong understanding of privacy and confidentiality in the workplace 
  • Excellent team member skills able to collaborate with other members of the health care team 
  • Excellent prioritization and organizational skills 
  • Demonstrated success in living the values of GHC 

Compensation: Salary as per the CUPE Collective Agreement – $24.54 to $26.54 commensurate with experience 

Operations: Monday to Friday – Business Hours, Weekends & Holidays Off
