The Role

This position is accountable for providing project planning, scheduling and control functions to maximize effective project execution.

Key Deliverables

  • Provide all phases of project management for Construction projects, retrofits and rebuilds, testing and commissioning, quality assurance, equipment sourcing, documentation, material handling and procurement, implementation and contract administration.
  • Manage the project team and ensure integration of their efforts.
  • Actively take ownership of the health and safety program in their area of accountability. Includes maintaining a high standard for housekeeping, providing worker training, tracking outstanding items to completion in a timely manner, monitoring worker activities, etc.
  • Generate Project Requirement, bid specifications, project budgets, scope sheets and schedules.
  • Negotiate with Purchasing and Legal contract language, terms and conditions.
  • Provide project planning and scheduling services to the project team and project sponsor.
  • Monitor and report project budget, scope and progress variances.  Identify corrective action.
  • Provide continuous project control, monitoring and assistance until all project objectives are complete.
  • Ensure construction is effectively coordinated between the different disciplines – civil, mechanical, piping, electrical, instrumentation, to effectively execute projects in proper sequence and timing.
  • Manage the project team and ensure integration of their efforts.
  • Direct trades during projects, down days or for relief purposes.
  • Ensure all projects are executed in accordance with all health, safety and environmental regulations.
  • Support the operating areas to achieve budgeted production targets.
  • Ensures all hazards and risks involved with the project are listed, actions formalized for properly tackling each hazard.

Core Competencies and Skills Required

  • Minimum ten years relevant project management experience is preferred.
  • Technologist Diploma in a Mechanical, Electrical or Civil discipline and experience in industrial construction and/or project management is an asset.
  • Steel industry experience is an asset.
  • Possess effective interpersonal communication, organizational, team and leadership skills.
  • Knowledge of computer systems – MS Office.
  • Experience with MS Project is preferred.
  • Experience with SAP is an asset.
  • Solid knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA) is required.
  • Solid problem solving and troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to wear a respirator, a Scott Air pack, be comfortable working at heights, in confined spaces as per OHSA and in all weather conditions is required.

Fulltime Permanent Unionized Position
Work week - 40 hours
Salary Range - $80,886 - $101,108 (depending upon experience)
Extended Health Benefits package and a Defined Contribution Pension Plan
