Welcome to Sault Ste. Marie

Whether arriving from Brampton or Brazil, it can be difficult or newcomers to know where to start exploring a new city.

Whether arriving from Brampton or Brazil, it can be difficult for newcomers to know where to start exploring a new city.

In an effort to make Sault Ste. Marie a more welcoming community, the Local Immigration Partnership, in collaboration with FutureSSM, has created “Welcome to Town” kits to help newcomers discover our community. The kits are designed to help newcomers take action to meet new people and learn about local businesses, heritage, cultural, entertainment and tourist highlights.

Local businesses and organizations are invited to get involved in the “Welcome to Town” kit by contributing items such as gift cards, coupons, branded clothing, useful or creative SWAG and information about services and programs offered.

“By contributing to the welcome kit, you will be letting newcomers know they’re invited to discover what makes your business or organization a unique part of our community. You’ll also be acting as an ambassador, showing newcomers how the Sault is a community of friendly faces and proud local establishments,” states Adrian DeVuono, Project Coordinator, Local Immigration Partnership.

Items will be distributed in a canvas bag approximately the size of a grocery bag. Kits will include information about the city, a tourist guidebook, city map, lapel pin, and branded city t shirt among other start-up items. Kits will be distributed from the Community Development and Enterprise Services office located on the main level of the Civic Centre.

If your business or organization would like to contribute items, contact Maegan Brennan, Local Immigration Partnership Outreach Specialist, at (705) 759-5485 or email: [email protected].
