The City of Sault Ste. Marie has launched Shape the Sault to create a new Official Plan for the city which will be used to manage growth and determine how land in our community should be used.

A public information session will be held on Tuesday, June 4, 2019 at the Downtown Association Office (496 Queen Street East) from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. This come and go session will focus on heritage preservation in Sault Ste. Marie.

New policies will be proposed to strengthen heritage protection in five community neighbourhoods. Public information sessions have been scheduled to collect feedback from the community. This is also an opportunity to collect stories and information from individuals regarding the history of these neighbourhoods.

“The proposed heritage conservation policies recognize the need to provide guidance for the city’s heritage neighbourhoods and individual properties. If they cannot be protected, we lose some of our ability to meet our broader visions of culture and heritage,” says Don McConnell, Director of Planning.

All are welcome to attend the public information sessions and to share questions and feedback with City staff. For more information and to stay informed, visit www.ShapeTheSault.ca/heritage
