The Sault's Natural Environment

The City of Sault Ste. Marie has launched Shape the Sault to create a new Official Plan for our city. The Official Plan will guide local decision making on land use, development and public infrastructure over the next 20 years.

A public information session will be held on Tuesday, June 19, 2018 at the Civic Centre (Level 3, 99 Foster Drive, Sault Ste. Marie) from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. This session will focus on Sault Ste. Marie's natural environment and natural hazards.

"Community input is a critical component in creating this plan and planning staff are currently collecting valuable input on the project from community members and organizations," says Don McConnell, Director of Planning. "Tuesday's information session will focus on providing information to the public about the City's role in environmental stewardship of Sault Ste. Marie's natural environment, and to provide a chance for the public to share their ideas for further environmental policies and actions that the City can adopt."

Topics to be explored at the information session include protecting natural heritage features such as wetlands and wildlife habitat, addressing natural hazards such as flooding and erosion, and ensuring the quality of our sourcewater and natural vegetation.

All are welcome to attend this session and discuss this project with City staff. For more information about this project and to stay informed on upcoming events visit www.shapethesault.ca.
