Calling all mountain bikers and trail blazers! The City of Sault Ste. Marie wants to hear from you. The municipality is working with its community and industry partners to expand the Algoma region’s Mountain Bike Trail Network.

What type of trail and features would you like to see developed? What are your riding habits? To provide comments, please take a few minutes to fill out a short survey at: surveymonkey.com/r/P76TBWY. The feedback will be used to create a Trail Master Plan.

“This is a very exciting initiative for Sault Ste. Marie and the Algoma region,” said Travis Anderson, the City’s Director of Tourism & Community Development. “By expending the Mountain Bike Trail Network, we’ll be better able to attract visitors and large-scale racing events while also providing another quality-of-life amenity for area residents. Mountain bike tourism generates a significant economic benefit, and we look forward to seeing this sector grow in our region.”

The expansion of the Algoma region’s Mountain Bike Trail Network is being made possible with a $500,000 investment from the Federal Economic Development Initiative for Northern Ontario (FedNor). With the funding, the City of Sault Ste. Marie is facilitating the development of up to 75 kilometres of premium trail. This multi-year initiative involves a number of partners, including the Sault Ste. Marie Economic Development Corporation, FedNor, Sault Ste. Marie Region Conservation Authority, Kinsmen Club of Sault Ste. Marie, and Sault Cycling Club.
