2:50 p.m. update:

Two people have been arrested on outstanding warrants in the area and the scene of the shooting has been cleared, reports Sault Ste. Marie spokesperson Lincoln Louttit. 

"Officers remain in the area as the investigation is ongoing," said Louttit in a release this afternoon. "Traffic is now flowing normally in the area."

Original story, 12:15 p.m.: 

Sault Ste. Marie Police Service say they responded to a report of a shooting in the 600-block of Albert Street West at about 5:30 a.m. on Jan. 1, 2021.

A victim was located with non-life-threatening injuries.

Police say the shooting is believed to be an isolated incident and not a random act of violence.

The area where the victim was discovered is an active investigation and members of the public are asked to avoid it.
