Watch out for a huge steel coil at Second Line and Great Northern

It fell off of a trailer

12:20 p.m. update:

Police tell SooToday traffic may be disrupted for 'a few hours' as the coil is removed

11:34 a.m. update:

Sault Police Service officers on the scene tell SooToday there were no injuries when a roll of steel coil came off a northbound transport truck this morning at the corner of Second Line and Great Northern Road.

Police are redirecting traffic at the intersection with intermittent lane closures. It is not known how the coil fell off the transport.

City crews have barricaded the area where the coil came to rest to protect motorists passing by. The incident happened around 10:45 a.m.

Officers with the Traffic Services Division of the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service are currently at the intersection of Great Northern Road and Second Line. A short time ago, a large metal coil fell off of a trailer that it was being transported. The coil came to rest at the North East corner of the intersection.

We ask members of the public to avoid this area if possible until officers can clear the roadway and complete the investigation.
