Victim from today's hit and run dies in hospital

At approximately 12:45 p.m. officers with the Traffic Services Division of the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service responded to a motor vehicle collision involving a pedestrian on Second Line West near Turner Avenue.

An adult male pedestrian was transported to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. At the time, a black SUV was travelling eastbound on Second Line West. The SUV struck the pedestrian on the roadway and then fled the scene.

The pedestrian later succumbed to his injuries while in the hospital. Officers with the Criminal Investigations Division of the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service are now continuing this investigation.

Officers are seeking the publics assistance in locating the vehicle involved. The vehicle is described as a black Chevrolet SUV. Officers believe that the vehicle will have damage to the front end including a broken bug deflector. The vehicle may also be missing a Chevrolet decal.

In addition to seeking the public’s assistance, officers are encouraging the driver of the motor vehicle to come forward and speak to police. Anyone with information regarding this investigation is asked to contact The Sault Ste. Marie Police Service.
