On July 5, 2018 officers with the Patrol Services Division of The Sault Ste. Marie Police Service arrested 56-year-old Gerald Tomie of Pim Street for impaired driving.

Just before midnight, officers observed a vehicle being operated by the accused eastbound on Albert Street East. The vehicle was swerving on the roadway and at one point struck a curb. Officers activated the emergency lights and attempted to stop the vehicle, however the accused continued on at a slow rate of speed swerving on the roadway.

Officers were eventually able to get the vehicle stopped on Wellington Street East near Pim Street. Officers found that the accused’s ability to operate the motor vehicle was impaired by alcohol and he was taken into custody. The accused has been charged with one count of impaired driving. He will appear in court on Aug. 20, 2018.
