Man accused of trying to strangle ex-girlfriend's cat

The victim was able to stop the incident and the cat was released, say police

On Mar. 20, 2017 officers with the Patrol Services Division of the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service arrested a 26-year-old male in regards to domestic violence incidents.

It is alleged that on Mar. 20 the accused attended the residence of his ex-girlfriend. The two engaged in a verbal argument and the accused pushed the victim.

It was further alleged that sometime between January and February of 2016 the accused grabbed the victim’s cat by the throat strangling it. The victim was able to stop the incident and the cat was released.

The accused was arrested by officers and charged with one count of assault, one count of injuring or endangering an animal and one count of breach of probation. He will appear in bail court today.
