Three people taken to hospital following Trunk Road crash

Sault Police have charged James Pidgen with impaired driving by alcohol and drugs causing bodily harm following a collision early yesterday morning on Trunk Road.

A news release issued today by the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service states that officers responded to a three-vehicle crash shortly before 7 a.m.

Three people were taken to hospital as a result of the collision.

Full text of the Sault Police news release follows:

On Jan. 18, 2021, officers with patrol services charged 23-year-old James Pidgen with impaired driving by alcohol and drugs causing bodily harm.

At 6:51 a.m., officers responded to three-vehicle collision on Trunk Road near Queensgate Boulevard. Three people, two of the drivers and a passenger, were transported to hospital.

Upon speaking with the accused officers developed grounds to believe his ability to operate a motor vehicle was impaired by drugs. He was given a standardized field sobriety test. He performed poorly. He was arrested and later completed a drug recognition evaluation which he performed poorly.

He is charged with impaired driving by alcohol and drugs causing bodily harm. He is scheduled to appear in court on March 1, 2021.
