Three charged after stolen property recovered

A news release issued today by the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service reports that three people have been arrested and charged in relation to an incident that occurred Friday morning.

After responding to a report of a suspicious vehicle, officers located break-in tools and stolen property inside a van on Second Line West.

Full text of the Sault Police news release follows:

On Nov. 13, 2020, officers with Patrol Services arrested 23-year-old Aurora Burr of Calgary, Alta., 41-year-old Calvin Hawryluk of Calgary, Alta. and 39-year-old Chem Hyvarinen of Neebing, Ont. for possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000.

At 8:19 a.m., officers responded to a call of a suspicious vehicle in the 600 block of Second Line West. Upon arriving, officers approached the vehicle and found Mr. Hyvarinen in the driver’s seat, and Mr. Hawryluk and Ms. Burr in the rear of the van.

Officers observed a lot of property in the vehicle, including a snow blower which was reported stolen on Oct. 26, 2020. The three accused were arrested. A subsequent search of the area of arrest located break-in tools and a drill reported stolen along with the snow blower.

All three of the accused are charged with two counts of possession of property obtained by crime, possession of break in tools and possession of instruments for breaking into coin operated devices. Mr. Hyvarinen is also charged with breach of probation. All three were held for WASH court.
