'This was planned,' owner says of Queen St. burglary

Thieves made off with $6,000 in jackets, heated gloves, flashlights, multitools

A break-in occurred early Wednesday morning at Joe's Sports and Surplus, 40 Queen St. East.

Owner Dave Edgar says the burglary happened just before 6 a.m.

Lincoln Louttit, manager of corporate communications, planning and research at Sault Ste. Marie Police Service, says police were notified at 7:49 a.m. and the matter is under investigation.

"This was planned," Edgar said Wednesday evening in a social media post. "It hurts getting kicked while you're down."

Edgar says there are two suspects, one wearing a plaid jacket, and a female wearing camouflage tights and a light-coloured puffy jacket.

"They stole over $6,000 in just over a few minutes," he says.

Edgar is asking his customers to watch out for these products:

  • men's Outdoor Research down jackets in blue
  • women's Outdoor Research down jackets in pink
  • men's North Face three-in-one jackets in asphalt grey and also in orange
  • men's and ladies' Choko heated gloves
  • wide selection of Nebo LED flashlights and True Utility multitools.

"If anyone hears anything please PM me or call Crime Stoppers," Edgar says.
