'Suspicious person' call leads to charges for 25-year-old

Accused faces theft-related and fraud charges

A 25-year-old hs been charged after an incident that occurred earlier this week, Sault Ste. Marie Police said in a news release issued today.

Police say they responded to a call around 11:30 p.m. yesterday regarding a suspicious person in the area of Estelle Street and Patrick Street. 

When officers arrived, they spoke to the complainant who was with one man they say was in their backyard. A second man fled the area as police were arriving. 

Police discovered the accused, who allegedly gave police a false name, in possession of stolen property, the release states.

Officers later identified the accused, and as a result, Dan Campbell, was arrested and charged with possession of property obtained by crime, identify fraud to prevent arrest and obstructing a peace officer.

He was released on an undertaking and is scheduled to appear in court on Aug. 9.

The investigation is ongoing.
