Sault Ste. Marie police charge woman with multiple weapons offences

The accused was found sleeping in a car with a sawed off shotgun and a knife with brass knuckles on the handle

Sault Ste. Marie Police have laid several weapons charges against Samantha Lepine after allegedly finding her asleep in the driver's seat of a vehicle on Jan, 13, 2022.

Officers found a gun in a duffle bag on the passenger seat of the vehicle, as well as a knife with brass knuckles on the handle during a subsequent search.

On Jan. 13, 2022, officers with patrol services charged 37-year-old Samantha Lepine with weapon offences.

Around 1:45 p.m. officers responded to a call of a woman asleep in the driver’s seat of a running vehicle in the 0-100 block of Cathcart Street. Upon arrival, officers observed a woman in the driver’s seat asleep. Officers approached the vehicle and were able to get her attention and she identified herself as the accused.

While speaking with the accused, officers observed a gun in a duffle bag on the passenger seat. She was arrested. A subsequent search located a loaded sawed off shotgun and a knife with brass knuckles on the handle.

She is charged with:

  • Unauthorized possession of a firearm
  • Careless storage of a firearm
  • Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose x2
  • Possession of a firearm knowing its possession is unauthorized
  • Careless storage of a firearm
  • Possession of a loaded firearm
  • Unauthorized possession of a firearm in a motor vehicle
  • Carrying a concealed weapon
  • Possession of a prohibited firearm x2
  • Possession of a firearm contrary to prohibition order
  • Possession of ammunition contrary to prohibition order
  • Possession of prohibited weapon contrary to prohibition order

She was held for bail court.
