Sault resident faces impaired charges

Police say the accused was driving erratically on McFadden Avenue before pulling into a driveway

Sault Ste. Marie Police charged Martin James, 54, with impaired driving after they were accused in careless driving.

The incident happened on Oct. 1 around 8 p.m.

According to police, officers observed a vehicle driving erratically on McFadden Avenue before it pulled into a driveway on this street.

Officers later identified the accused and got them out of the vehicle.

As a result of the investigation and breathing test, officers developed grounds to believe the accused was influenced by alcohol. 

James was subsequently charged with:

  • Operation while impaired – alcohol and/or drug
  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80+)
  • Breach of undertaking – being in the driver’s seat of a motor vehicle
  • Breach of probation – failing to keep the peace and be of good behaviour

James was released on an undertaking and will appear in court on Oct. 17, 2022.
