Sault man charged with robbery, weapon possession

On May 15, around 10 a.m., someone demanded money with a knife at a business in the 300 block of Great Northern Rd. The accused had fled the area when the police officers arrived, says a police release.

At around 2:40 a.m, officers found and arrested the suspect. Sydney Benwell, 29, was charged with robbery, weapon possession, and failure to comply with release orders.

On May 16, 2022, officers with Patrol Services charged Sydney Benwell, 29, with robbery.

On May 15, 2022, around 10 a.m., officers responded to a person demanding money with a knife at a business in the 300 block of Great Northern Rd.

Upon arrival, the person had fled the area. A search was conducted, but the accused was not initially located. Further investigation identified the accused as the suspect. Around 2:40 a.m., officers located the accused. He was subsequently arrested. 

He is charged with,

  • Robbery
  • Failure to Comply with Release Orders – Possessing a Weapon x2

He was held in custody pending a bail hearing.
