Police have charged a 62-year-old Sault man with impaired driving after his vehicle allegedly hit a tree last night.

Police say around 6:33 p.m. on Tuesday, officers responded to a call of a vehicle striking a tree in the Willoughby St. and Allard St. area.

When officers arrived the accused was being treated by paramedics.

In a press release issued today, Sault Police say they developed grounds to believe the driver's ability to operate a motor vehicle was impaired by alcohol.

The accused provided breathe samples into a registered device and registered a fail result.

As a result, Brian Sweeney is charged with impaired driving – alcohol and drugs, impaired driving – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus) and dangerous operation.

He is scheduled to appear in court on June 21, 2021.
