Sault Ste. Marie Police Service have accused a 30-year-old man of impaired driving.

Police say on Tuesday night, they responded to a call of a possible impaired driver in the central part of the city. The driver was located a short time later on Pine St.

Police say they approached the vehicle and observed a man in the driver's seat of the running vehicle, who was not responding to their attempts to communicate.

Once officers got his attention, they report the driver was holding a piece of tin foil with burnt residue, developing grounds to believe his ability to operate a vehicle was impaired by drugs.

In a press release issued today, police report a subsequent search of the area found the accused to be in possession of what is believed to be fentanyl. He later completed a drug recognition evaluation, which police say he failed.

As a result, 30-year-old Jake Pelletier was arrested and charged with impaired driving - alcohol and drugs and possession of a controlled substance.

He is scheduled to appear in court on Jan. 11, 2021.
